Top Easy-to-Find Natural Hair Products

Hair Care for the On-the-go Natural!

Hey curlfriends! Let’s be honest. Sometimes, we run out of a hair product and need to take a quick trip to Walmart, Kroger, Sally Beauty, or whatever local store you frequent to pick up that product. Often, shoppers look to natural hair influencers for product recommendations, which is a great idea! Us natural hair influencers try out A LOT of hair products from companies big and small varying in a range of being sold in major supermarkets/retailers like Walmart & Target all the way to only being sold online. Because of this, sometimes us natural hair influencers fall in love with products from small brands, shop small businesses, then recommend products that may only be available online or only available in a handful of retailers, none of which may be near you. It’s important to recommend and support small businesses, but what if a shopper is trying to do his/her hair in a couple hours? In that case, a list of online only or primarily online hair products is not that helpful, which brings me to this post!

Here’s a list of my favorite products (links, locations, and prices included) for naturalistas on-the-go like me! I am always able to find these products during a quick run to Walmart, Kroger, Sally Beauty, etc. No online ordering needed. If you prefer to shop from bed like me, you can still place an order online for all of these products either through a major retailer or through that specific brand’s website.

Personally, I love shopping Sally Beauty from bed with their mobile app. When shopping Sally Beauty online, I can usually catch these products on a good sale also while accumulating points on the Sally Beauty Rewards Program. Over the last couple years, I have found that Sally Beauty runs better sales online than in-store. Fun fact: once you hit the Elite Level in their rewards program, ALL orders ship free no matter how large or small the order!!! Regardless of how you like to shop, these products should be easy to come by during your next trip to the store.

In case you’re wondering, I have type 4 (4b/4c) high porosity kinks, so these products should work well for those with a similar hair type. Also, you won’t find a rinse-out conditioner, gel, or edge control on this list. I honestly don’t use rinse-out conditioners often because I usually just use a deep conditioner or masque. I also don’t use gels nor edge control on my hair often, hence while I don’t have a recommendation for these products. I hope you find this list helpful and enjoy these goodies!

Pre-poo

SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Collection Extra-Moisture Detangler (8 oz)

Before starting any wash day, I always detangle my hair first. Make sure your hair is wet when detangling. I spray my hair generously with water then apply my detangler of choice. Talk about slip galore! This detangler makes my tangles a breeze and adds moisture to my hair. Check out my Instagram post below, “Pre-pooing for Natural Hair”, for exactly how I detangle my hair and set my hair up for an easy breezy wash day.

Shampoo

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Shampoo (13 oz)

I love a shampoo that has a great lather, which this shampoo definitely does! It does exactly what it says it will do; it is very hydrating, moisturizing, and leaves my hair feeling so soft after using it. My hair feels clean but not dry nor stripped after shampooing with this twice. My normal routine is to shampoo twice then deep condition. I usually wash my hair roughly once a week.

Deep Conditioner

Design Essentials Coconut & Monoi Deep Moisture Masque (12 oz)

This is definitely one of my all time favorite masques! It has great slip and softens my hair really well even after rinsing it out. It has keratin protein and is perfect for dry, thirsty hair. I usually sit under a dryer or steamer when using this. I always buy it at Sally Beauty, but since the coronavirus, it may be out of stock temporarily. Hopefully, it will be back in stock at Sally’s soon! Until then, this product is available online.

Leave-in Conditioner

Texture ID Intense Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner (8.45 oz)

  • Sally Beauty- $8.99

This is a lightweight conditioner, which I love because I usually style it with thick creams. It combos well with most everything with no flakes! It has a light, fresh scent. Provides great moisture and softness and has great ingredients including honey, aloe vera, and protein! I always buy it at Sally Beauty, but since the coronavirus, it may be out of stock temporarily. Hopefully, it will be back in stock at Sally’s soon!

Curl Cream

Uncle Funky’s Daughter (UFD) Extra Butter Curl Forming Creme (8 oz)

  • Kroger- $19.99

What I love most about this cream is that it’s super moisturizing for days while elongating my curls. I don’t have nearly as much shrinkage as I do with other butters and creams. It’s easy to find the UFD Travel Kit, which includes a small Extra Butter, but harder to find the full size. I’ve been able to find the full size at my local Kroger.

Oil Blend

As I Am Long & Luxe GroHair Oil (4 oz)

I have sensitive, oily, blemish-prone skin and have found that some oils can irritate my skin. In particular, my forehead can break out, which makes sense since my hairline is obviously along my forehead and sometimes I apply oil on my edges/hairline. This oil agrees with sensitive skin, is lightweight, and great for everyday use.

Curl Refresher Spray

As I Am Jamaican Black Castor Oil Water (8 oz)

One BIG mistake I made when first going natural was not feeding my hair enough water. When you’re relaxed, you don’t normally spray your hair with a curl refresher or water, so it isn’t intuitive or automatic when you’re making that transition to your natural texture. When you’re natural, your hair thirsts for water and it is definitely needed everyday or every other day depending on the style you’re wearing your hair in. Trust me, even though this product is just ‘water’, it is an awesome product that I’ll always come back to! #OldFaithful Lol. I like it for everyday use, refreshing my twists, putting my hair in a puff and more! The uses are endless!

P.S. This blog post was written June 2020, so prices listed here are correct for that month and in my state (Arkansas). Actual prices may vary and fluctuate depending on when you read this article and when/where you make your purchase. Availability verified for my local locations in June 2020. Actual availability may fluctuate. Not all locations are listed; you may be able to find these products at other major retailers and beauty stores in addition to the ones listed here. In June 2020, the coronavirus pandemic was still occurring, which has impacted the availability of some products, including some on this list. Sorry if you are shopping and that is the case!

xoxo,

Margaret Nicole
