For the Love of Avocados with Avocurl

Calling all my curlies and kinkies! Do you love avocado? Have you ever tried avocado-based haircare? Well, I actually don’t eat/like avocados or guacamole (I know, I’m crazy), but turns out, my kinky, type 4 hair LOVES avocado! I stumbled upon this Black owned, woman owned brand based in California called Avocurl after seeing some of my curlfriends on Instagram using them. So, I started following Avocurl. Shortly after, the Founder and Formulator, Jasmine Curtis, reached out to me and called me to complete a brief curly interview asking me all about my hair: what were my hair concerns, what ingredients do my curls enjoy, etc. Really sweet right? When was the last time a brand took the time out to talk to you and ask you about your hair? Almost never. I was later kindly gifted all four of their products to try out and to do a video tutorial. I was really excited because this was my first time trying avocado-based haircare, and if you can’t tell, I’m still excited!

There’s so much to love about @Avocurl ! All of the products contain high quality, nontoxic ingredients and are handmade with love from Jasmine! I am actually familiar with all of the ingredients listed in all of the products. All real and all natural ingredients! I also LOVE the aesthetic and diversity of the brand! Peep the Avocurl website here! From the logo to the gorgeous photos, the branding is beautiful. Far too often, people of color (POCs) have to call out brands for their lack of diversity and inclusion. We often see brands include that one “token” POC just so they’re able to say they included someone. With Avocurl, they are beautiful ladies of different shades and cultural backgrounds that grace the website and Instagram account.

NEW BRAND ALERT + BLOG POST! 🚨 Have you had the problem of wearing your twists/braids for 3+ days, then you take your hair down and it's dry and frizzy? Having high porosity, kinky hair, that's happened to me way more than I'd like. I prefer to leave my hair in the twists/braids for a couple days to give me and my hair a break. But if I do that with some products, my hair becomes too dry, so I have to take it down the very next day (after twisting/braiding it) to get bomb results. Well, I've finally found a product that keeps my curls moisturized, soft, and shiny while also clumping my curls. As the week progressed, the definition faded, but the moisture and softness remained (and I kept getting compliments)! I braided my hair on a Saturday and took it down on a Tuesday. I tried avocado-based haircare for the first time and y'all my curls have been missing out! @Avocurl is a Black woman owned business that offers nontoxic and handmade styling products: a leave-in conditioner, daily moisturizer, conditioning butter, and avocado oil. I used it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Twice so far. This video shows me using it for the first time. I immediately feel in love with how my hair looked and felt. I can truly say I am loving these products, my favorite being the Conditioning Butter. As someone with high porosity hair, my hair loses moisture quite quickly. As a natural hair influencer, I have tried A LOT of products and brands that claim moisture, but left my hair dry on day 3 or 4. This was not the case when using Avocurl. Peep my Instagram video above when I tried out my Avocurl products for the first time. I was stunned and in love! More importantly, my hair was in love, moisturized, juicy, shinier, curls clumping, and just plain ole happy. Keep reading for my detailed product reviews:

Leave-in Conditioner– a little goes a long way! It has a slippery texture, which makes detangling a breeze, and it helped my curls to clump! The scent is lavender and peppermint, which smells amazing! If I could change something, I would make the scent more lavender and less peppermint. I feel like the peppermint overpowers the lavender. But, I also just LOVE lavender, so I’m biased lol. I also think this product could potentially have a pump (similar to the Daily Moisturizer) for easier application because my hands and the bottle became slippery as I used it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Conditioning Butter– LOVE it! Perfectly creamy, thick, not stiff, and melts into your hair. Your curls will thank you for using this! They will clump and act right for you lol! This is definitely one of my all time favorite products. If I had to change anything, I would weaken the minty scent.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Avocado Oil– a lightweight oil. Perfect to use as a sealant and for taking down your twists or braids to reduce frizz. Perfect for a light, everyday oil.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Daily Moisturizer– I have not tried it yet, so stay tuned for that product review!

Scent– both the leave-in conditioner and butter have a strong, peppermint fragrance. I like it, but if you don’t like minty scents, these 2 products may not be your favorites. The scent does weaken as days go by.

Potent– a little goes a long way with all of these products. You’re paying for bomb ingredients, not just water! Even though I have been pairing both the leave-in and butter together, I feel like these products can probably work very well as one-and-done, stand alone products. I plan to try this out soon. Follow me on Instagram to stay in the know on how they work alone.
