My Natural Hair Regimen with Twisted Aloe

Hello curlies!

Do you have a natural hair regimen? A natural hair regimen is essentially your hair routine for every wash day. Having a normal routine allows your hair to have some consistency, structure, and makes sure you give your hair exactly what it needs everytime. A regimen focuses on important steps that shouldn’t be skipped.

Below is my natural hair regimen that I’ve been using consistently for over a year. When figuring out your own natural hair regimen, it’s definitely okay to use someone else’s regimen as a starting point and tailor it as you see fit. Just make sure to find someone that has similar hair as you. For example, my hair is 4b/4c, fine, and high porosity. Anyone with type 4, high porosity hair can definitely use my regimen as a good starting point for determining their own natural hair regimen, then make adjustments as you go.

For this regimen, I will be highlighting Twisted Aloe products simply because they’re great for type 4 hair and I frequently use their products for a full wash day start to finish. Some naturals like to mix and match products, but I honestly prefer to use just one brand. Or I’ll use 2 brands, one brand for washing (shampoo and conditioner) and another brand the styling products. Regardless, this regimen can be followed and applied using the products you already have. No need to switch anything up. Running low on a product or want to try out Twisted Aloe? Feel free to use my discount code MargNicole20 to save 20% off a purchase of $20+.

Step 1: Prepoo

If you’ve read or watched any of my content, you know I am a BIG cheerleader for prepooing! Always start out every wash day with a detangler, conditioner, hair masque, or oil as a pre-shampoo treatment. Not familiar with prepooing? Check out my blog post “Why You Should Start Pre-pooing” to learn more about the benefits, product suggestions, and how-to videos. With Twisted Aloe, feel free to do a hot oil treatment with the Rose Oil or Aloe Moringa Growth Oil.

Step 2: Shampoo

Contrary to some naturals’ beliefs, you can shampoo every wash day. But when should you? You should be shampooing every wash day if:

  • You don’t wash/do your hair often (2 week or longer time frame). I wash my hair with shampoo every wash day, which is every 1-2 weeks for me.
  • You use heavy creams and butters. If so, you want to remove these heavier products completely, not just wash with a cowash and layer more products on top of the leftover heavier products.

Let’s say you have a hairstyle that didn’t turn out well, so you want to wash your hair sooner, for example, after only 3 days. If you didn’t use heavy products, feel free to just go in with a cowash. If you did use heavy products, I would use a shampoo.

Also, there’s so many shampoo options! It doesn’t have to be a stripping shampoo. You can use a moisturizing, hydrating shampoo. In this blog post, check out a review of one of my favorite hydrating shampoos.

For Twisted Aloe, I currently have the Moringa Shampoo in the container, which has been replaced with the Moringa Shampoo Bar to be more environmentally friendly! I love it when brands make extra effort to be environmentally conscious. I’m excited to try out this new shampoo bar!

Step 3: Deep Condition

I love a good deep conditioner and I almost always add heat. I normally apply my deep conditioner section by section then sit under a hooded steamer for 15-20 minutes or a hooded dryer with a plastic shower cap on for 20-30 minutes. Depending on the slip of the deep conditioner, I will detangle with a wide tooth comb either before or after applying the heat. If you’re struggling to detanlge with your deep conditioner, try allowing it to sit in your hair or applying heat then try to detangle.

Some naturals love to double condition (so conditioning once with a rinse-out conditioner then following that up with a deep conditioner). I’m sure that works well and feel free to try it. But for me, my wash day is long enough, so I tend to just deep condition. If I am in a rush, I’ll use a rinse-out conditioner and not deep condition. I try not to make that a habit though.

For Twisted Aloe, I am loving the Aloe Watermelon Deep Conditioner! They also offer the Coco Deep Conditioner.

Step 4: Style

Your styling products will change depending on the style you’re trying to accomplish. Regardless, I always use a leave-in conditioner (which I definitely recommend my high porosity naturals and really any natural struggling with dry hair to do). The only time I skip a leave-in conditioner is if the product I am using is a one-and-done product that has the leave-in conditioner built in.

For my busy student life, I’ve been rocking two strand twists pretty consistently just because they’re a easy, protective, and low maintenance hairstyle. For two strand twists, I normally pair a leave-in conditioner and cream. With Twisted Aloe, I love to pair the Leave-in Conditioner with the Aloe Watermelon Moisturizer.  They also offer the Aloe Gel Moisturizer.

Step 5: Seal

If your hair is high porosity, sealing in that moisture is important! I always finish up by applying an oil. I also tend to apply more oil as the week progresses. Feel free to try out the Twisted Aloe Moringa Oil or Rose Oil

Have a nice, relaxing wash day!

Margaret Nicole
